95 Accord automatic transmission/engine problem

Hello. Recently had some problems with my 95 Accord, I've been searching around trying to find some info on what the trouble is before I find someone to take a look at it. While driving down the highway I noticed my "D" light started to flash. I pulled over and took a look in the manual to see what the problem might be, seemed to indicate a problem with the transmission. I was probably 2 or 3 miles from home at the time, decided I would just turn around and quit driving it until I could bring it in to be looked at. On the way back my check engine light also turned on. There were a couple intersections where I had to stop along the way, each time while braking it felt as though the car was still trying to accelerate although I had my foot off the pedal. When I pulled in and stopped, still felt as though the engine was trying to accelerate. Can't explain the sound of the engine running any better than it sounded "rough." After getting out of the car it smelled like something was burning, although I didn't see any smoke.

Should probably mention that about a year ago I had my AC compressor replaced. Afterwards I had a problem with the belt squeeking when I started the car, had the belt replaced. A few months ago that belt started squeeking again, just wanted to mention that because I'm not sure what else that belt connects to, maybe if that belt was going bad it could have damaged something else. I was also occasionaly hearing a metal grinding sound when accelerating from a stop, didn't happen too often but might be related to the problem I'm having now.

Anyways, just thought I'd try to find some info online before trying to find someone to take a look at it and have it fixed. Any info you may have would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. -CC-

Re: 95 Accord automatic transmission/engine problem

You said your Check Engine Light came on. Try to read codes. The answer might be right there.
If that comes to transmission do not go to Aamco. I had very negative experience with them.

Re: 95 Accord automatic transmission/engine problem

The flashing D light is telling you you have a transmission issue. You need to pull your codes from the ECU to find out exactly what it is.

The FAQ has links on how to pull your codes, and lists of what the codes mean:

Also if the burning smell was really foul, it's probably tranny fluid leaking onto the exhaust. I wouldn't recommend driving it, until you figure out the issue. But if you must, at least check your tranny fluid level so you don't run it dry.
