Exclamation buick whistling with rpm

Hi all,

I have a 2002 Buick Sedan LS with 3.8L V6 engine.. it has 96437 km on the odometer.. I've changed the main belt on the car because the old one was near to break..

When I'm talking about the belt, I mean the one that the alternator reliated to and the A/C etc. Since the dealer changed the belt, my car started to whistle. The sound is coming from whatever the belt is reliated to.. I've check under the hound and the sound is coming from that. Now, when driving you don't hear the noise because of the wind etc.. but when you're on idle, you hear the whistle.. in city driving, the more higher the RPM is, the more whistle it is..

can you help me with that kind of problem please?

And btw, the belt is not slipping..

What brand was the replacement serpentive drive belt? I use the GoodYear Gatorback V-belt and it is fairly quiet.

If it is a part making the sound then the alternator would be a possibility and the most likely. After that you have the tensioner, idler pulley, water pump, power steering pump and AC compressor.

I would keep an eye on it just in case but it doesn't mean you have to take immediate action. Once you get mileage on your vehicle a lot of noises seem to pop up. As long as it is driveable with no symptoms of overheating, charging system problem, power steering problem, AC problem or other driveability issues. The noise may even disappear once you get some time on the drive belt. If not then that would be a good starting point since it was the last item replaced. As I mentioned earlier the Goodyear Gatorback is fairly quiet and dependable. Good luck!
