motorcycle deaths

as i read the last post by Eclipser2001 in another thread regarding untimely deaths on bikes, i thought we could all share some of the horror stories that we've heard or seen.

family friend i never met washing his bike when he knocked it. he tried to save it and got hit in the temple by the bar end. instant death.

a mates a cop and has told me these two.
a cbr600 rider tried to beat the traffic at a red light only to have a bus jump the green. he died on impact inside the bus doors.

a bike and a car (both friends) racing around, turned at some lights and booted it over a hill. a car came out of a side street infront of the bike. the rider (in shorts and t shirt) dropped the bike. the bike hit the turning car while his friend drove over the rider. these guys we're school friends of my apprentice.

near a bike store where i buy some bits. i was riding down a main street infront of the local skank hangout. saw alot of people on the road. then saw what was left of a ZX9. i stopped to see if i could help, but there we're way to many people already. the "helpers" tried to remove the riders helmet. i yelled to stop and tried to get of my bike and get to the dickheads. turns out the rider was trying to remove his helmet. ambulances arrives at the same time so everyone leaves. spoke to a nurse friend about it weeks later and she remembered the guy bleed to death on the hospital table. i couldn't remember any blood on the road though. police report stated he was wheelieing up and down the street when a kid ran out from between cars infront of him. he dropped the bike to save the kid.

morbid thread, i know, but we all like to hear these stories and it reminds us of how dangerous our "sport" is

Re: motorcycle deaths

I don't like to analyze the circumstances like these, but I'll give my observation anyway. The first one seems like a freak accident, I mean, I almost fell on the washroom few mins ago. The last one seems like the guy had real bad luck. How many times do we watch those stunt videos of squids just wearing a helmet and fall off from a botched wheelie, just to see them few seconds later get up and walk off with road rash. I also think the police report neglected to list the detail on the impact of his injuries, sounds like thing must have been worse than just to say he fell off his bike and received fatal injuries.

I think there are certain amount of luck needed to ride motorcycles, especially to stay alive on the street.

I've seen my share of motorcycle wrecks, it's wordless...

Re: motorcycle deaths

my buddies dad was cruising around on his harley one night after he had gotten into an argument with his wife. while riding down one open stretch of road his rear end went out on some pea gravel at about 100mph(so the cops assume) and he nailed the guard rail and slid along it which sliced his stomach open, he lost his foot and he died later on at the hospital from his injuries. it was pretty sad considering my friend and his girlfriend had just had a baby a few months earlier.
