Jeep CRD
I took the new jeep liberty CRD for a spin. It really was a fun to drive. it took only a few seconds for the glow plugs to warm up and it was ready to go. The engine is almost quieter than my 4.0 litre.
It has good pep from the get go, due to all the low end torque and the five speed automatic was smooth. The 2,000 dollar adder does not make it economical. It would get nearly 50% better fuel mileage. But it would take like 5 or more years to earn back the initial cost, and the fact that diesel is anywhere from 25-35 cents more than gas. I may wait until the hype has died down. |

Are you still following your thread? I am not looking at the CDR for absolut cost savings. i want to run biodiesel. not for economic reasons for social and ppoitical reasons. how many miles on your jeep so far? any problems? heard of any other complaints? i will be buying a new Diesel to suplement my flull size truck just not sure what. liberty looks like a good fit but i have known odther people with late model jeep products they were less than happy with. need input.

You can also produce diesel from fry greese. I saw an episode on Trucks where they made 40 gal. of fuel for about 8 dollars, minus the cost of the machine that refines the greese. All they added was lye and ethanol.

Re: Jeep CRD
I'm a big fan of the 2.8L CRD. It's a real torque monster (295 lb. ft.). TS Performance already makes a tuner to gain 50 hp and 100 ft. lb. of torque.
