starter motor wiring diagram
can't seem to wire up the starter correctly, all that happens is when you connect the neg bat. term (ground) the truck tries to turn over . we've got the wires mixed up somehow.

Re: starter motor wiring diagram
Almost sounds like you put the positive terminal on the wrong large terminal on the starter Solenoid.
Looking at the front of the starter (end on), the solenoid is on top. The solenoid has 2 LARGE terminals and one or two small terminals. Look at the Terminals as you would the numbers on a clock. The terminal at 12 oclock (large) is for the POSITIVE CABLE. 3 oclock is normally empty (if it exists). 6 oclock is the terminal that goes in to the starter motor itself. and 9 oclock is where the small wires go. It is possible that the small wires all go on the 9 oclock if 3 oclock is missing. At any rate it sounds like you put your positive cable on the 6 oclock terminal. |

Re: starter motor wiring diagram
Regarding what you posted as a reply, I have a question. My 1990 suburban has 1 main post terminal at 12:00 for the positive battery cable, a small "S" terminal at 3:00 (close to block), a terminal at 6:00 for the armature itself, and one another small terminal at 9:00 marked "R". Question is where does the small purple ignition switch wire go, to the "S" terminal or the "R" terminal? Also, there is a long pigtail lead starting from the Positive battery cable at the battery which is long enough to go to the starter........Where does this positive wire go??? Thanks in advance.
