Mounting Trailer Brake Controller

I was hoping that someone may be of some assistance for me. I am trying to mount an electric trailer brake controller in my 2002 trailblazer, but am having difficult finding the appropriate wiring harness. I am also not 100% sure where the wires are under the dash, if indeed there is a harness for them. I have been told both ways, and was hoping to get some more feedback before I look blindly inside the dash.

Welcome, there are wires under the dash near the outer drivers side floor vents. To fins them, remove the lower kick panel and then they should be taped to the main harness of wires. Unwrap them and then connect them to the correct wire on the trailer brake. Be care and use the wire colors that are taped to the harness in the truck, as the colors are different. I mounted mine on the lower left side of the kick panel so it is easily viewable but not in my way at all while driving.

Thanks for the info. I was able to find them, and got the battery and ground wires organized, but am not 100% sure which blue is brakes and which one was signals.. Any idea. They were not clearly labeled in there, but I just put in quick connects for them, and figured if they were wrong all I would end up doing is blowing a fuse or a light. Cheers,

Sorry, I installed my controller over a year ago and have no idea where those wires go. Have you checked with the manufacture of your controller? Mine (Tekonsha Voyager) service dept sent me an email clarifing the wires after I asked them about it.

I just completed the job and found it necessary to remove the kick panel over the brake pedal and also the knee panel just under the steering wheel. 2 hex head screws in the lower panel and 5 in the knee panel. The 4 wires are taped to another large wiring harness right beside the steering column and are clearly marked with a sticker that identifies which wire color provides what function. The hot wire was protected with tape. The controller that I purchased (Prodigy 90185 by Tekonsha) had excellent instructions and a color to color wiring list from the supplied harness to the vehicle. There must be some deficiency of information about this particular model Chevy Trailblazer 2002, because two RV service companies told me it would have to be wired all the way from the connector, so I did it myself in about 20 minutes. This may have been the last year that cut wires were furnished. Newer models have a connector and you can purchase a wiring adapter for your model or it may be supplied with the vehicle. It took me more time to mount the bracket to hold the controller than to make the connections. FYI all other functions in the towing connector are working (make sure your trailer connector is seated and locked)

From what I have heard from the new TB owners, all the wires are there and cut, just like in the 02s. Nice of GM to make it a pretty easy install.

And, there are NO ADAPTERS for the TB, no model years have a connector that you can just plug a controller in. DO NOT buy a harness, all they are doing is ripping you off and you will have to return it later.
