Re: Put A Stop To The Fuel Crisis

Cool concept. One way I think we could make ourselves heard is by not buying anything but gasoline from gas stations. Oil companies make more money on people buying coffee, candy, magazines etc than on the fuel itself. That's why virtually every new gas station has a store as well.

Re: Put A Stop To The Fuel Crisis

Not to contradict you Hofmeister, but...

The vendors that hock their wares at your local gas station actually rent/lease the space from the stores owner and not necessarily the oil company who's name is on the sign, so to boycott them by buying only gas when you visit the store would only serve to put more money into the oil companies pocket as you'll only be spending money on their gas.

Now if you want another site that actually offers the visitor some real information, as well as a way of having your voice actually heard, try visiting: www.kicktheoilhabit.org

Re: Put A Stop To The Fuel Crisis

Adpet-I - Follow your logic to the end. You'll hurt the oil company because vendors won't want to lease/rent space from gas stations if people aren't buying food from the stores at the station. It doesn't matter if it's an in house operation or if an owner leases space to their vendors. As you said, vendors lease/rent the space. Therefore the rental costs are revenue (and profit) for store, and oil companies get a share of the profits from the store. As you may be aware, in a franchise agreement the franchisee must pay a percentage of the profits to the franchisor. Anyway you slice it, profits make their way to the oil company. You're not giving the oil company anymore money by only buying gas - you have to buy gas anyway. You're just reducing their profit centers by not buying any additional products.

Re: Put A Stop To The Fuel Crisis

I understand that as being applicable to the few actual oil company owned gas stations, usually located within a certain radius of the plant itself, but my comments are primarily directed to the majority of privately owned gas stations that the oil companies are also renting/leasing tank space from where at their only profit is that which is achieved from the sale of their product.
