Question Changing to Taller, Skinnier Tires

I am running a 99 Grand Am GT and the stock tires are 225/50/R16. I want my ride to be a little higher so I am thinking of switching to 215/60/R16 tires. Does anyone know if this is dangerous? I know it will impact my speedometer and mpg but do I need to get my gear ratios adjusted?? Could this somehow impact my brakes and cause brake failure?? I don't know a lot about cars so any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Someone who might know, will be with you shortly though.... Hang Tight!

Re: Changing to Taller, Skinnier Tires

Shouldn't cause too much trouble, but its really not going to change the stance of your car more than 1/4 inch. They will also cause a noticable difference in handling and cornering.

Question Re: Changing to Taller, Skinnier Tires

Wow that's great, I really appreciate the advice, thank you guys. This site is great, I am glad I found it. I am thinking of instead getting some 215/55/16's, they are only about a 1/2 inch taller and 1/3 inch thinner, so I hope I won't notice much change when I am cornering, I like being able to take turns at 30+ Do you think I can put them on my stock rims ? I am not looking to change my profile much, just a little. I have some huge speedbumps and there are alot of uneven curbs and tall parking things in my town. Thanks again, you guys rock!!

I am not sure if that would mess with the computer or not. I would ask the dealer "In this case" to see for sure.
