Exhaust Information and opinions
I have a 2000 GC with the stock muffler rusting away. So i figure why not try to upgrade and try to replace it with one that will sound good. So my question. Without making me go and climb under my car and measure the inlet and outlet diameters does anyone already know? and second I am looking for opinions on what make and model muffler will please my ears.
Thanks |

Re: Exhaust Information and opinions
well there are alot of us on here with performance exhaust, and there are a few different exhaust mfg. out there that makes cat-back system for ZJ/WJ...
I have the american thunder system from flowmaster, sounds great not terribly loud but much much deeper throatier tone.. now preference would be 4.0L - go with the FLOWMASTER 40 series muffler. 4.7L - go with the FLOWMASTER 50 series muffler. the differnce is the 40 series is a much louder muffler, and since the 4.0 is a smaller engine it will make it sound great, putting the 40 series on the V8 would prolly be really loud to an annoyance point - but I guess if you want the loudness of an old musclecar then putting a 40 series on a V8 will be you thing... Other options are BORLA, MAGNAFLOW. Gibson makes a cat-back exhasut system for jeeps but they are of the sleeper type, proven to add HP but with a quiet design. |

Re: Exhaust Information and opinions
i just put the muffler on my 99 gc 4.0 an it was a holley afterburner. it's chambered and comes in the inlet outlet for the jeep and it costs about 40. you need to cut and paste a length of pipe but it wasn't hard. it sounds good too. louder than you think. quiet in cab though. and the pipe size is 2 1/4
