1988 buick p[ark avenue problems

i have a 1988 buick parkavenue 3.8 v6 it used to run beautiful but now not as good. for one the car seems to choke sometimes when i start it it dosnet start and it like chokes and you can see smoke commig from where the choke is. and my air filter box is breaking off cause when it chokes i guess too much pressure goes into the filter. its been doing this for at least 6 months. also when i step on the gas to go the car kinda like if it wants to stall and then it goes. whats wrong with my car any help would be apreciated. Also the engine service light is on for like 2 years but dont know if thats related to it.

okay lol ill take it to autozone i never even knew they had free check ups til like a couple weeks ago.something more i should add that happened like 30 min ago when driving when i pressed on the gas to go it backfired from somewhere in the front of the engine. ill get the code one of these days and post back.

Autozone cannot scan pre 95 cars.
