1998 Monte Carlo dumb questions

I have a few retarded questions, and mebbe one or two in there that might be alright.

Step one, where is the cheapest place online for parts? I really need to replace a couple of wheels, and if i can get them with tires already mounted, that would be even better. Retail I have found is about 300 each or more, and that is just a bit expensive. I can think of much better wastes of money, that is much less practical. ~_^

Secondly, can you do any kind of conversions with it? Or is there any kind of body kits out there for it? Most specifically, My favorite type of car is a 3000gt VR-4. I could never insure one of those, nor would I be responsible enough with it to not have a lot of tickets. heh heh. Though I realise the frame set on the two is different, so it cannot be converted, i only mention this as I really like they way the GTO looks from the side. I'm not sure if the part i am most refering to is skirts or panels though, and I would like to have something like that on the monte.

to explain myself more clearly:

So any advice, knowledge, or insight is much appreciated.

I like the monte carlo, but i am abit tired of its just so plain and common appearance, i want to know what I can do to it.

Re: 1998 Monte Carlo dumb questions

It is indeed very very hard to find aftermarket parts for the lumina body style monte carlos. I own a 98 Z34 that is completely modified. (pictures to come when i get a scanner) Engine is Bored Out New pully's, camshaft, flywheel, twin turbochargers (HKS Stage 3), Cold Air Intake, Bigger Alternator, Fiberglass interior, and so on and so forth. I had the same problem as you. I couldn't find anything aftermarket really worth while for my car. Unfortunately I had to customize everything installed under the hood interior, body kit. The only thing that i found in JC Whiteney's catalog was blacked out headlight and taillight covers and a spoiler kit. Keep me posted On your journey. I might just be able to help you.
Good Luck

Re: 1998 Monte Carlo dumb questions

If you can help me, I would be most appreciative. I know it isnt the most sporty car in the world, but i have had it quite some time, and I really would like to complete redo it. It has outlived itself, but i was thinkng about an engine swap of some sort, or at least putting a new one in, and overall completely rejuving it. It actually has quite a history with me. ^_^

For used parts, I like www.car-part.com to identify sources.

Re: 1998 Monte Carlo dumb questions

Those aren't retarded questions dude. A lot of us have looked for aftermarket stuff for the Monte's. You won't find too much prior to 2000. From what I've found most is custom but there is the odd kit out there. It seems like Chevy only went half way with the styling and left the finishing touches for the rest of us. The Concept Intimidator from 1998 was a glimpse of promise but some retards at Chevy decided against it...I guess they're OK with losing money year after year. It seems that the general public is better at finishing the design shortcomings. It's amazing how good the car can look with just a few enhancements. I'll add a few links to show you. The first link is the concept I mentioned that Chevy showcased in 98...I really wonder how they decided this was not as nice as what they released in 2000. Do a search for the 2000 SS and compare it to this concept...WEAK. Only the owners that purchased the 2000 SS's and tweaked it themselves saved some face. As far as the models from say 95-99 they can look really sweet with the right body enhancements.

Re: 1998 Monte Carlo dumb questions

what specifically do you want to modify? suspension, engine, body etc.. there are a ton of parts for the montes-luminas you just have to look in the right areas. i have found a ton of items on ebay for my z34. i had a nice dual setup put on and eliminated the resonator, night and day for power, made my own cold air kit, porter out the intake plenums(simple job) etc.. you might want to check a website called mymonte.com. all these guys do is work on these cars, they even have swapped a supercharged 3.8 into the 95-99 montes and some have also turbo(ed) them. like i said before there are mods out there you just have to know where to look and do things yourself.

Re: 1998 Monte Carlo dumb questions

Alas, it no longer matters, but thanks fo rthe info. I was out driving one day, and i was pulling through an intersection on a green arrow, when a kid ran a red light at near 60 mph's and tboned me directly, fracturing most of my rips, tearing some of the muscles in my side, and dislocating my scapula. needless to say, the car was totalled.

happy ending though, i got a 3000gt out of it!

Re: 1998 Monte Carlo dumb questions

Holy shit dude, that's harsh. Good thing it wasn't your 3000, those are swee and I'd hate to see that written off. Good thing you were in a full size car because if you were in a Dodge Neon you would be doing a war amps commercial. Damn, you must be hurtin. Those sound like some bad injuries. Too bad you weren't in an 06 Monte, they come with side airbags.
I hope you talked to a lawyer about long term recovery as a lot of injuries take a few years to surface.
Well, sorry to hear about your accident, good luck with that settlement and I hope your new wheels are spared from that fate.
