92 Park runs rough when hot
I'm back for more good advice! In the past year, I've changed the plugs, the fuel filter and the oxygen sensor and the cam position sensor with the result that the 92 Park ran pretty good. I haven't driven enough to warrent going through those items again. However, after the car heats up, it has a significant miss that I notice when it idles. It might be doing this while driving, too, but I haven't noticed it. Anyone have a clue for me on this? Thanks.

Re: 92 Park runs rough when hot
You did not mention replacing the ignition wires, did you? What kind of plugs did you install?

Re: 92 Park runs rough when hot
Happy to see that you are still around! I put in AC Delco plugs but I did not change the wires. The wires have not been changed for a very long time, maybe 60,000 miles. 7/21/2005 we discussed the transmission in this vehicle. It still has that popping sound and at times hesitates slightly on acceleration. I've driven it over 5,000 since last July without having any work done on it. It hasn't gotten worse, but I am curious as to your opinion at this point.

Re: 92 Park runs rough when hot
1534dover, I am also glad to see you are alive & well! I would defiantly replace the wires. If you have just one wire arching, it would cause the miss you described.
Also, it sounds like your tanny may be running or borrowed time, sort of like mine. That “popping” sound is probably the drive chain trying to jump the sprockets. It would only do that in park or neutral. The hesitation could be the clutches beginning to slip. You could continue to run until it quits altogether, or go ahead and bite the bullet & have it rebuilt or replaced. If you decide to keep driving it, you need to program the phone number of your favorite towing service in your cell phone, today!! I have!

Re: 92 Park runs rough when hot
If the wire replacement doesnt work - i would go ahead and replace the Crankshaft Position sensor - doing this really helped my 92 PA out alot - it used to hesitate and even conk out when engine warmed up in the past - i changed almost every sensor in the engine, wires/plugs, coils etc - to no avail. It wasnt until i changed the Crankshaft sensor that everything worked well again. Also - i would recommend getting on of those cheap (like $25) code readers at Advanced Auto - it will tell you the codes - and comes with a big book on code meanings - M
My tranny hesitates too on acceleration from time to time - not enough to really bother me yet - but i think ill start hunting around for a good used one at the local yard - i need to see what the latest year of compatible tranny is -M |

Re: 92 Park runs rough when hot
Thanks, Gentlemen. You are a real blessing. I will be replacing the wires within the week, and then go from there.

Re: 92 Park runs rough when hot
I replaced the spark plug wires and don't see a noticable difference. Perhaps I am not describing my problem correctly. I notice it only at idle. The PA runs well otherwise and has adequate acceleration. In comparing to vehicles I've owned it kind of seems like I am lugging the engine and it isn't getting enough fuel. If there might be clogged injector would running cleaner through the system help?
