Acceleration problem -97 Lumina - Please Help
Hello
Recently, I've been experiencing a problem with my 97 Lumina where, when my foot is off the gas pedal the car still accelerates. Its happened twice now. I know next to nothing about these kinds of issues, so any help would be appreciated |

Goes faster, or just doesn't slow down as expected? Anyway check for binding throttle linkage or throttle plate, clean the throttle body also.

The car speeds up, as if i had my foot on the gas pedal. No check engine light is on, and no past history of anything like this happening

Re: Acceleration problem -97 Lumina - Please Help
is it something as simple as the gas pedal isn't coming out all the way after you push it in to accelerate? i.e. sticky

Re: Acceleration problem -97 Lumina - Please Help
Look at the throttle cable bracket on the throttle body. When the throttle is released, the linkage should contact the throttle stop. If there is a gap there, your linkage or throttle cable are binding, not allowing the throttle plate to return all the way closed.
