Acceleration problem -97 Lumina - Please Help

Hello

Recently, I've been experiencing a problem with my 97 Lumina where, when my foot is off the gas pedal the car still accelerates. Its happened twice now. I know next to nothing about these kinds of issues, so any help would be appreciated

Goes faster, or just doesn't slow down as expected? Anyway check for binding throttle linkage or throttle plate, clean the throttle body also.

The car speeds up, as if i had my foot on the gas pedal. No check engine light is on, and no past history of anything like this happening

is it something as simple as the gas pedal isn't coming out all the way after you push it in to accelerate? i.e. sticky

^ yea it could be the cruise control, beacuse it can acclerate to keep the car at one speed when you let your foot off the accelerator

Look at the throttle cable bracket on the throttle body. When the throttle is released, the linkage should contact the throttle stop. If there is a gap there, your linkage or throttle cable are binding, not allowing the throttle plate to return all the way closed.
