<<water drops>>

i took these a while back, just thought i'd share.

if anyone wants to try, here's how i did it. first, grab a clear bowl, glass or plastic, fill it with water. underneath the bowl, place something colorful, like newspaper ads for instance. set this up in a well lit area. place the bowl near the edge of the table so u can set up a tripod next to it. have the camera on manual focus. on my camera, i had to figure out how far my lens was from the water then enter the value in. also make sure the flash is on, otherwise the drops will just come out blurry. using a dropper, start dripping water and take as many pics as u can. out of 20 pics, u might get 5 good ones, u never know. if u have photoshop, here are some tips to help bring out the contrast. open up the image, and go to filter>sharpen>unsharp mask. slide the radius bar to about 65 pixels or so. then go to filter>sharpen>sharpen to bring out the details a bit more. after that, you can up the saturation and u can play with levels and curves if it still doesnt look quite right. if you have alot of noise in the pictures, i highly suggest "neat image." it works great, but not always perfect. have fun

Re: <<water drops>>

the focus on the water droplets aren't completely clear. it is just a tad out of focus. the over all effect is good. the technique is nice. you may also want to try a darker single color background to help show the water ripples better. the words and multiple colors kind of over power the water. you especially don't want wording behind your signature/water mark.

i know photographing moving objects is tough. the focus is always the key. lighting is something to consider here. you did a great job not over doing it.

over all, it is a nice photo.

Re: <<water drops>>

The part I like how is in the first, only the droplets are in focous, everything else is chaotic, and yet the droplet which is causing the chaos is totally in focous.

Re: <<water drops>>

I'm trying and some of the pics are great while others suck. I'm still working on the right focus and distance for my lenses. But I'll see what I can get up here in the time being.

I couldn't get close enough originally but now I found a good setting, but I need someone to do the droplets for me. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Re: <<water drops>>

thanks for the feedback.

@directory - i see what u mean. my initial attempts were set up a bit differently but overall, the idea is the same. i wanted to try the colorful background after i saw some similar pics taken by someone else. when i get a chance, i'll try something with a darker background.

@ Damien - from experience it takes alot of tries to get some decents pics. most of mine didnt come out, these are the few that turned out decent.
