Hello,
I am considering purchasing a 1988 635 CSi. It is in quite good shape (I would have it evaluated if I were to consider buying it) and it has an automatic transmission. My question is on the reliability of this and other 6 series vehicles. I love the cars, but I want something that is not high, high maintenance. I expect a reasonable amount of service on a car of this age, but can anyone tell me about the amount and, especially, cost that they have observed of the maintenance on these cars? Thank you very much. |

E24
First let me say I really enjoy my e24.
It is a 1985 e24 and it is twice as likely to have electrical issues when compared to my 1984 e30 325. The e24 was originally manufactured in Italy under contract. I am afraid some of the wiring retains an Italian reliability. Fun car but unless you can troubleshoot electrical issues, you will buy a few mechanics new boats. Later,

Re: Reliability?
Budget $500 to $1k a year for maintenance and repairs. Finding a reliable repair shop is another problem.

these cars were never made in italy
they were always made in germany and the electrical is the same as every other bmw, these cars need to be worked on like every other 20 year old car
