anybody had cracked block or head gasket

I got a 1995 4.3L.135k. My radiator fluid is getting low. I notice that there is an unusual amount of white smoke in the exhaust. So the question I have is... Has anyboby had a cracked block on their blazers? Or have most of you had to replace the head gasket? I have put in a ton of money on this and am dreading doing more work on getting the head machined or finding out there is something else wrong. I would consider replacing the head gasket if I were sure that was the only thing!

Re: anybody had cracked block or head gasket

white smoke on startup is just condensation.

I would top up your rad and your overflow tank and install a new NON-ACDELCO rad cap.

Stant is a good brand.

Re: anybody had cracked block or head gasket

Listen to BLT, but still keep an eye on the coolant level for a while.

I've never seen a cracked block, but it's possible. Usually only happens when there's water in there that freezes.

If you have a bad head gasket your rad will probably over pressurize instantly when you start your truck in the morning. (the top rad hose will probably be rock hard instantly)

the 96 and newer heads are thin pieces of junk, but seince you have a 95 your good there, a puff at startup is ok as blazer lt stated... but a continuous cloud is bad, could be cracked head, bad gasket, etcetera

Re: anybody had cracked block or head gasket

Could also be condensation from an overly rich mixture that is just not rich enough to blow black smoke.

Sign of a leaking CPI injector or nut kit.

Re: anybody had cracked block or head gasket

I wouldn't go so far as a cracked block, although it is awlays possible, but highly unlikely. As for loosing coolant and white smoke in the exhaust, its enough to inspect it. Do you have any visable leaks of coolant? If not, I would defiently get the coolant system pressure tested. You won't necessarily see a pressurized coolant system if you head gasket is leaking, and it may not be the head gasket but the intake gaskets leaking. Either way, it a good idea to ge tthe system pressure tested and go from there.

Also do a combustion gas test on the coolant system. Do it hot and cold. It will tell a difference than a coolant system pressure test.
