97 sebring LXI, tops out at 4000 rpm, should it top out higher?

97 sebring LXI, tops out at 4000 rpm, should it top out higher?

I know this car lacks the quick off the line arena, but when im on the highway and I punch it, it tops out at 4000rpm constantly... Kind of wish the engine would rev up higher to get more UMPFFF out of it...

Could this be a transmision speed sensor????
Is everone else car do the same, or should it swing out to like 6000 rpm????

Someone Help

I own a 97 LXI. Next time I'm on the highway I'll "punch it" and see what I end result I get for you.

I'll get back to you.

Unless I misunderstood your original message on your post, my SEBRING went well over 4000 rpms. I had to get that puppy past 80 mph, but it went past the 4000 rpm mark and steadily stayed over it while I kept that speed.

I hope this answered your question.

Thanks bro,
I new it, This car has to have more balls than this...
Cool, I was looking into a repair site on the Autozone website and as Far as I can read there is a software update for the Transmission Control Module
(TCM)... You can only get the TCM reflashed with all the updates at the dealer. So, as we all know, Going to the dealer you get REAMED. So I suppose with my new information, I will take my ride to the dealer and have them reflash and road test my car to see what they come up with.....

I will keep everyone posted on my results...

SHHHH i had a 4 banger Nissan Altima take me,,,, my sweet ride with a V6 Got woopeddd....I know there was something wrong here..

GOOD NEW's Everyone,,,That Autozone online Repair site Payed OFF

I had spent some time trying to figure out this problem with the car, I read on the autozone,, alldata website repair manual for my car that there was a Transmission UPdate for the TCM "tranmission control Module"

Anyhow I took it to the dealer so they can analyze it, and the mechanic said I needed a valve body Rebuild,,,NOT,,,,I exhaustably made my point for them to check the TCM Software Version and for them to check if there was an Update from chrysler,,, AND BAM,,,there it was a new version... I had them check version and Update both the ECM and the TCM..."Engine Control module"

and WOW what a difference, this bad boy hits around 6300 RPM now, when I punch It....Finally feel like my car has some Balls.....parden the french

This website is great, if it wasnt for the previous dude that posted I would have never worked up the urge to hit the dealer for the update...Thank everyone...GOD bless you all
