22 ft lbs. If that means anything to you. Otherwise, it needs to be a little past snug. Not gorilla tight.

Re: fuel filter 2002 impala 3.4 liter

I dont remember a oring, but It was a while ago, spray the shit out of it with some penetrating fluid, like rust eater or PBR, and let it sit for a little bit.

If you still have everything tight, and can drive the car, I would suggest picking up either a set, or just the correct size flare nut wrench, that way you won't end up rounding off the nut.

You only have to replace the oring if it;s torn or fucked up on an area, otherwise, if it looks ok, it should still be ok.

the recommened way by GM to releive fuel pressure is to disconnect the fuel pump and start the car and let it run out of gas. That not only releives the pressure, it removes all the gas from the lines. Even if you let the car sit there may still be gas present.

Re: fuel filter 2002 impala 3.4 liter

I just did mine last weekend, 2003 Impala, the LS version but it's pretty much the same thing..

The nut will be on there tight, tight to the point of having to spray it down with anti tight nut stuff to where it was soaked, or at least as soaked as a nut can get. To get the nut off I used two wrenches and pulled the filter one way and the one on the pipe the other way.

Disconnect the fuel line first so the filter can spin around once it gets loose, you'll most likely get sprayed with gas and get it all over the driveway, but, eh, that's part of the fun. I let it sit for a while to get the pressure down but got tired of waiting and just let myself get a little wet.

It's not very hard to do and a whole lot cheaper than taking it in to have someone do it for you. Just use the proper size tools and don't worry about pushing and pulling too hard. When it's done turn turn the car on right away, turn it two clicks to the point before the engine kicks in, wait about 10 seconds for the car to fill the filter back up, then you can turn it on and be on your way.

Did you use a 5/8 inch or 16 mm flare nut wrench on that nut. I have the 5/8 flare nut wrench, are they the same?

Re: fuel filter 2002 impala 3.4 liter

it was a long time ago, I dont rememebr, and I cant crawl under there right now, its in the garage and parked next to another car, so there isnt any room. but that does sound about the right size.

I can try to remember to check tomorrow, but im REALLY busy lately, finishing up my quad taillights.
