possible overheating

ok here is the problem. i can smell the syrupy smell of antifreeze leaking. when i sit in traffic the temp rises. when i'm driving its fine. i looked at the overflow container and it was over filled. it has a new radiator and cap. i just recently got the car so i'm trying to work all the bugs out. any ideas would be appreciated. thanks!

possible there is air trapped in the top of engine due to improper bleeding of system when changed out. should be 2 bleed screws in near the water pump and one near thermostat housing.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.



Close the radiator drain cock. Tighten the radiator drain cock to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.).
If the engine block drain plug was removed, perform the following:
Apply pipe sealer to the drain plug.
Install the drain plug. Tighten the drain plug to 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.).
Lower the vehicle.
Open the cooling system bleeder screws. Important: Use a 50/50 mixture of DEX-COOL antifreeze and deionized water.
Slowly fill the cooling system with a 50/50 coolant mixture.
Close the cooling system bleeder screws.
Install the coolant pressure cap.
Start the engine.
Run the engine at 2,000-2,500 RPM until the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
Allow the engine to idle for 3 minutes.
Shut the engine off.
Allow the engine to cool.
Top off the coolant as necessary.
Inspect the concentration of the engine coolant using the J23688.
Rinse away any excess coolant from the engine and the engine compartment.
Inspect the cooling system for leaks.
