Where is the Transmission Temperature Sensor?
98 Limted 5.2 with the 46RE. I'm getting the OBC Code P0740 (TCC problem). My MIL shows Coolant Sensor Failure so I replace the Engine Coolant Sensor. MIL sill shows failure. I figure with the TCC code it might be the Transmission Temp Sensor.
So I get out my trusty Factory Service and Parts Manual and Nadda, Zip, ..... So if all else fails....Google it! I get the following link; http://www.asashop.org/autoinc/july98/techtips.htm "The transmission temperature sensor is mounted on the overdrive/torque converter clutch solenoid." If anybody could confirm this, I'm assuming that I have to replace the Overdrive Solenoid in order to fix the xmission temp sensor issue? |

Re: Where is the Transmission Temperature Sensor?
hey Maui Dave
Noticed that no one has given you any feedback yet so I'll give it a try Your P0740 is "no rpm drop at torque converter lockup" (how did you read this code?) the engine coolant temp circuit codes are P0117, P0118 (how did you read this fault?) The tranny fluid temp sensor is "in the pan" just behind the valve body and ahead of the governer pressure solenoid...... If there is a problem with the temp sensor the power train module should store a P0711, P0712 or P0713 code depending on the failure from what I can gather the temp sensor is separate from the OD solenoid so...... Not sure where this all gets you but >>>Clear the engine codes first then the transmission....... Hope this ![]() helps.. JD

Re: Where is the Transmission Temperature Sensor?
JD,
Thanks for the help. I got the code from the NJ emissions inspection report. It only gave me the fail code P0740. My MIL gives me a "Coolant Temp Sensor Failure". As far as the other codes I'm in the dark. I was going to order a ProScan OBD II tool from http://www.myscantool.com/order.html . But I don't know if the tool has everything I'm looking for. I know it won't program unless I buy another brand for $700 or more. At least the ProScan is $100 with shipping. Most likely going to order it by Wednesday. At least then I can use the Powertrain Diagnostics Manual to widdle down the problem. Thanks - Dave |
