Question Please, somebody tell me the name of this particular part on my accessory belt...

Early in the morning today my car began making noise as if the bearings are shot on one of the accessories . It is sits in bottom, front of the belt and the belt is positined on the side of the car. Here is a picture to understand what I am talking about.

I need to know what is this part, power steering, brakes?

thank you so much

Re: Please, somebody tell me the name of this particular part on my accessory belt...

air conditioner compressor

is it leaking some oil behind the pulley or @ the lines connecting to it? reason: if a/c oil is seen there, it's indicator that u have a leak; how's the AC performing lately?

or it can me the AC clutch that's going south; if u don't see any leaks, that'll be my 2nd guess.

3rd guess: u can rent a serpentine tool to remove the belt & try to sping that particular pulley by hand to hear if the noise persists... heck, if the belt's stretched waay out of specs d/t age, i might just go ahead & replace it outright.

according to that diagram u provided, you'll put that tool on the pulley just below the alternator pulley (the 2nd from the top) and push the tool towards the rear of the vehicle to relieve tension & remove the belt.

tHANK YOU, the sad part is that I just replaced the belt and tensioner. The AC works, but metal scaps are coming out of the pulley of the ac compressor. I guess it is worn out and bearnigs are shot. The noise does sound like shot bearings.

Is it possible to replace the bearning/pulley assemply without replacing the actual compressor.... AC works and I believe the the compressor is alllot of money.

Thank you for consideration.

hmm that's weird that this happens after a serpentine belt change...

ok, no leaks? compressor ok... bearings/pulley/clutch assembly can be had seperately i think... check autozone online or napaonline to see if aftermarket exists... if not/ junkyard time! car-parts.com is a good online reference

good luck!

I REALLY APPRECIATE SUCH RAPID, HELPFUL REPLIES. THANK YOU VERY VEYR MUCH

The AC clutch can be replaced by itself without replacing the entire compressor.
