buyer beware on used bikes
last few weeks i've been looking at used bike for an apprentice of mine.
some of the things we saw made me wonder how safe the older bike are if people buy them in the condition i saw. simple things like screws missing on fairings and seats to brake fluid never being changed and one guy didn't notice he was low in oil despite the warning light. his response was "oh it always stays on, i think its broken or something" broken levers leaving sharp ends, kinked chains with no lube but the best one was a car detailer who detailed the bike including tire shine. i took it for a spin (literally) but told the guy if i drop it i'm not paying for it. first corner i lost the front but managed to not drop it. walked it back and we left so be careful all the newbies, the last bike looked immaculate even though it had been dropped. my apprentice would have bought this bike because it looked awesome from 6 feet away. instead he got a newer bike (ZX2R) for less money and it was in very good original condition. still needs brakes and servicing but overall good condition

Re: buyer beware on used bikes
i dont mean to be picky but your pic of the speedo doing 188, your saying you did that? (proof i'm an idiot. 24/3/06 just before 5pm)
thats funny your oil symbol is on and your temp isnt even reading like the bike wasnt even running yet. most new sport bikes guages go through a system check like that every time the key is turned on. and 188 km/h isnt as fast as 188 mph. sorry for being so picky |

speedo healer dude. button recalls highest speed. who do you know capable of holding a camera at that speed?
116mph on the street isn't fast for you? 1 week after i did this a dude got caught doing 185 and was jailed for 6 months loss of licence for 3 years

Around here, 116 isnt really that fast unless its on a 45 mph road to be honest. On the interstate, Ive seen people on sport bikes that had to be doing 150...sadly not just once either. I see it all too often. I don't encourage it by any means but just thought Id share how many retarded people there are on the roads here :-p |

Re: buyer beware on used bikes
putting it into perspective.
our highest limit 110k's highest dual lane separated suburban 80 but most are 70k's suburban limits are 50k's this was done while teasing an appentice on a 70 section (about 45mph) i know you guys tend to go really fast on open highways but we don't have those kinds of roads any where near civilisation 150mph is equal to 240k's. my top speed on the track is 265 so anything close to that without controlled enviroment is too bloodyfast

Amazing how long 2 tons of car takes to stop from that speed Thought I was gonna set the brakes on fire before I ran outta road Gone 120 on a bike. Plenty fast for me. I do enjoy watching Ghostrider do his 200 mph wheelstands. Better him than me....

Re: buyer beware on used bikes
people down here don't tend to go over 140k's on the street often. maybe once or twice. we have a very high speed camera population and they are hidden and unmarked cars patrol. fines are very high and demerit points mean loss of licence if you exeed by 30mph
racing at track days shows you how long it really takes to slow down from 150mph
