RS/GS Turbo Exhaust Question

Hello. When turboing a RS or GS, what kind of aftermarket exhaust do you use? Since its now turbo, do you use a GST/GSX exhaust system or a RS/GS exhaust? Thanks.

Re: RS/GS Turbo Exhaust Question

You can use your factory exhaust if you want to, you will just need to make a new downpipe. Running 3" pipe from the turbo back will give you the best performance.

If you're not running anything more than the stock t-25 then just go with 2.5"

Re: RS/GS Turbo Exhaust Question

Just to answer the original question, no you do not use GST/GSX exhaust. You will need to get a 2.5" (smaller turbo) cat back or a 3" (big turbo, but I would do a 3" reguardless of the turbo size). A high flow cat or test pipe with the desired exhaust diameter will be needed as well as a downpipe. Not sure if you can buy a turbo down pipe for a 420a Eclipse, but you can look. Also, you will need a turbo exhaust manifold and a o2 sensor housing.

Very few turbo'd 420a's have the need to run 3". Even on a smaller turbo (t-25, 14b) 2.5 would be more than sufficient. Someone asked this same exact question over at team-2g.com and it was concluded that 2.5" would be more than enough unless you're making over 300hp.

Re: RS/GS Turbo Exhaust Question

What would be the purpose of going through the trouble of turboing a 420a unless you are aiming for numbers past 300? I was just saying I would go 3" incase he decides to go big later. 3" sure wont hurt performance on a small turbo but if you go with a 2.5" and wind up with a 20g or 50 trim a 2.5" may not be following quite enough.

Is there any company that makes 420a turbo exhausts? My buddy with his turbo'd 420a neon just made all his shit, even the manifold.

Re: RS/GS Turbo Exhaust Question

Yea im aiming far past the 300HP mark. I plan on completely rebuilding the engine, port n polish, bore out the cylinders and get bigger pistons, cams, lifters, injectors, im basically replacing every part inside the engine and am just using the block. Im going to start off with a EVO3 16g turbo and if that doesnt satisfy my needs I plan on going to the 20g. So Im going to use a 3 inch exhaust, just needed to know if a GST/GSX downpipe would work as the engine is flipped. What kind of downpipe would fit under the car correctly? Thanks
