2001 JGC tranny went out
First of all my extended warranty just expired last month and after just 44,000 miles my 42RE tranny went out. It is being rebuilt as we speak and should be ready tomorrow @$2,000.
This tranny didn't even last half the miles until the recommended service interval of 100,000 miles. This is lame.

Re: 2001 JGC tranny went out
Was there anything that could have contributed to the failure? Deep water fording, heavy towing, transmission overheat, etc? Ever change the fluid? I'm curious as to the cause, as I have the same trans in my JGC.

Re: 2001 JGC tranny went out
i have a 99 and my trans blew when getting stuck in the ice (2wd) so i purchased a reman unit hd build and all. i also got a big cooler for it too but 12K later my wife drives up the highway with and pops the cooler lines off (have now idea how that happened) and i am back to where i started when i got stuck in the ice. these freaking transmissions in the jeeps are cursed. good luck just don't ever put atf3 in them.

Re: 2001 JGC tranny went out
So I should count myself lucky on 2 counts: 1) Mine went 250k before my tranny went out. 2) A local renound tranny mechanic is only charging me $1200 for the complete rebuild... There. When I put it that way I don't feel so bad. Thanks.
