I-30 Motherboard
My wonderful 2001 I-30 had a racing idle. The dealer scoped it out after the check engine light came on but couldn't isolate the problem. Finally they discovered that the engine mount sensors shorted out the motherboard. The charge for repair is $3,500!!! Is this an aberration? Has anyone encountered this problem? Did someone at the dealership screw up? How should I handle this with the service manager?

Re: I-30 Motherboard
Everybody has encounteres stealership$... this one is true battle$hip!
- I guess thats the price for ECU? ...plus troubleshootin time. Or just troubleshootin time for 10 persons, one day. - You have not seen your ECU, havent you? 'Somebody' there needs a new ECU, you pay - How do you really ensure that there IS NEW ECU now installed? Maybe youre just billed for that? - How did all this start out? Do whatever with sensors, ECU will not burn... I cannot even believe the case you are been told: maybe the service tech shorted/burned your ECU himself? IF (!?) the ECU is the real problem now: 1. Buy from the net a much better 'general' tuning ECU with 500$ -or- Find used I-30 ECU from junkyard for maybe 200$ -or- buy crashed I-30 to cannibalize the ECU. Check what is the value of another I-30, how much is it feasible fro you to pump into 5yr old vehicle?? 2. Just Tell the stealeship take 'their own ECU' out - you will not pay over 1k 3. Contact local consumer help officials before u go back to this shop 4. Go any able shop to install the second ECU 5. Document all nuances what you've been told, what has happened, parts used, worktime, phonecalls whatever, for further use. Take a second person with you as you go to the shop, even pay for a specialist. All used parts are yours, demand them back as evidence. Whatever - dont accept this hoax.
