Intercooler flow rates

Is it true that top and bottom intercooler(inlet/outlet on the same side) dont flow as well as the side to side type IC's?

I'm just wondering because I will be shopping for a intercooler over the summer most likely.

Re: Intercooler flow rates

I dont really understand what you are talking about, but I would think that the IC's with the inlet on one side and outlet on the other flow better than the ones with the inlet and outlet on the same side.

Re: Intercooler flow rates

What dont ya understand? You seemed to answer my question fine. Im just wondering if that is true or if its an educated guess. Its easier to do the piping that way so I was wondering if I be losing power gains if I went with inlet/outlet on the same side compared to side to side IC. Anyone have any kind of proof or experience?

Re: Intercooler flow rates

well, the good fmic kits are all side to side, so take that for what it's worth. Piping would be harder on a top/down anyway, 1 pipe would have to cut across the whole car

Re: Intercooler flow rates

Cut cross the whole car? How it just be like if I ran pipes to a sidemount but instead, I'd bring them to the front of the car. My stock J pipe would already be facing the right way and I wouldnt have to worry about cutting near the p.s. lines and running a j pipe down b/t the fans. I mean if you guys think I will be losing power by using top/bottom then instead of the side to side than maybe Ill stick with side to side. I just know e bay has a lot of top/bottom cores that are decent sizes too.

Re: Intercooler flow rates

Actually Top to Bottem Intercoolers are a little better then side to side designs. Top to bottem have lower pressure loss through the intercooler, and have a lower persentage of heat soaking. It's coverd fairly well in Corky Bell's: Maximum Boost.
