Unhappy 92 lude "Condenser Problem"

the summer in miami is getting hotter everyday, and the same thing is doing my a/c, so I took it to an a/c specialist, the guy told that the problem was because the condenser was made of copper (the last owner had a front accident, so I may think that however was fixing the car used an aftermarket condenser made of copper) so due to this the pressure in the system was too high making the compressor not able to keep the line cold, could this be true?. He's charging me $294 (part and labor) I know I can do it myself for a lot less, but I don't trust not mechanic out there...I trust u guys!..please help me out on this, today's record was 90 degree and going up everyday :-(

thanks a lot
