I dont know much about audio besides putting in aftermarket headunits, however i do know if you want a good system you are probably going to need to spend more than a grand

Nah, firebirds are awesome in that you don't need a lot of power or ultra high performance components to get good sound. The rear hatch funnels it all forward. Alpine head unit can probably be purchased for about $400 in the lower to mid quality range...it'll be fine. Alpine amps and subs will be expensive. Plus you need a box and wiring. I'd stick with like Rockford Fosgate subs or MTX maybe...but I have a bias for Kicker and Fosgate as those are the only two I ever use. 2 Fosgate 12's in a box pushed by even just a 300-400 watt amp would sound good. Not competition or anything...but for under a grand you'd be happy. The Fosgate 12's would probably be around $300 and an amp roughly the same...maybe $400. That puts you around $1100 if you buy all new and it doesnt include the wiring or box. You could probably get a cheaper deck, maybe drop down to 2 10's and be under your mark. Hope that helps some.

If you are frugal, you can do it. Personally, Alpine rides on their name. You can get about the same performance for 1/3 to 1/2 the cost with brands like Pioneer or JVC. If you plan having amps for mids and highs plus subs, make sure to look for a stereo with separate sub outputs. There's a guy on Ebay selling Pioneer stuff at reasonable prices. Look under seller selzitall.

Put the money on quality amps. Too many times people think they can get huge speakers and run them on smaller or cheap amps. Also, in Fbodys, it is so easy to get them to rock. Get one awesome sub like one CompX 10" or a SX 12" from Directed Electronics. Then follow that up with an amp rated at least to match or little higher than the speakers. If you plan to amp the mids/highs, look into a very nice set of componets.

Remember, not all has to be right now either. Do things in steps.

Bird Audio

I've got $300 Kenwood head unit & $300 Kenwood 10 disc changer. Head unit outputs to (on RCA's-the plug type cables behind head unit) a pyramid 3 way crossover ($30) (high, mid, sub) The sub RCA output goes to a 300 watt pyramid amp ($250) (2 channell or 2 speaker) to 2 10' tubes, 1 bazooka ($250) (ads) and 1 fosgate punch I put in a tube. ($200) Mid RCA runs to a Legacy 100w amp ($100) that goes to bird factory rear hatch speakers and high goes to 30w Legacy amp ($25) wired forward to bird factory door speakers. $275 in wires and circut breakers. This system POUNDS! Not real strong on ultra-low frequencies like are on bass demo discs but it turns heads. I've had this system for 10 years now and they don't even make the amps anymore. They are fossils. Whatever you buy it will last if you take care of it, I took a lot of abuse for buying pyramid when it was all I could afford at the time but they pound 10 years later. This system has been in 4 cars.

Re: need suggestions on AMP SUBS SPEAKERS all greek to me

i agree with poncho, the name alpine seems to add acouple of hundred to any item. you can get great quality sound from several brands. Ive started off with MTX, then drifted to Boston. Now im all ive got is my dual 12" Massive subs. Im in the process of replacing all other speakers, since all them are blown to bits. LOL Ive used Kenwood also in my truck, flip mask head unit along with a 6 disc changer. Dont know what kind of local audio stores you got in the area but at the time La Salle in my area always had kool specials on speakers and amps.

All i can say just hop into a store and take some music with you and have fun sample listening to different brands. Ive spend least an hour doin this just for shits and giggles. but they sales people know that ill be back to buy. Some places they dont like to take the time to help you, since other people are lookin also. I know Best Buy has a great layout...choosing head-units to amps to speakers and see what sound you like the best. Good Luck
