Throttle body - wow, nasty, cleaning as I

type this. Well, actually it's airing out now.

Took off the whole air intake duct, and while I still couldn't get to the MAF caught between the air filter box and the remaining air duct - still would not come apart. I just sprayed the MAF sensor through the top of the air box, seeing as I took all of it off the truck, the bad stuff was only going to drip to the ground and not up into the throttle body.

And the throttle body - well, let's just say it was GROSS!! But, it had never been cleaned before in all of 155k miles - could have been worse, but it was BAD. It's no wonder why I was getting the P0401 EGR insufficient flow code.

What amazed me actually - is I'm using the typical STP Air intake/throttle cleaner stuff, and it's coming off relatively easy. A little bit of elbow grease, but not much.

But DO lay a towel or a couple shop rags underneith the TB as it will spill out black crap as you spray and go all over.

Probably would've been easier to take the whole TB off the truck, but don't quite have that time this weekend, but I had to replace that little throttle coolant hose, so I dove into this at the same time.

Taking it into town in the next half hour, let you know how it BREATHES.

Also took off the PCV valve and all of the hoses too and from to clean them out. Not too bad considering how nasty that intake hose was.

I'm actually gonna have to go back through my paperwork on the stuff I had my mechanic do when I first moved back to Colorado 5yrs ago - I'm almost wondering if he didn't do those O-rings then, as he had the valve covers off replacing the gaskets and a spark plug boot.

Otherwise, I hate to tear into something when it's not an issue - yet; though I do fear, not the actual issue of leaking antifreeze, but of the possibility of overheating because of it. Only hope that it's an obvious leak that begins while it's parked - as all of the others have been.

I've already decided that if it ever overheats, chances are it's a gonner, I've had my share of warped heads and cracked blocks that generally follow overheating an aluminum engine. I thought the 22RE engines were pricey, but they don't hold a candle to the 3.2L's.

Unfortunately chances are that if those O-rings do go, my mechanic's gonna have the luxury of doing that job - he has the ability of getting parts the same exact day, as I would need it back on the road ASAP.

But - I have replaced every oil cooler, radiator, heater, and throttle hose as of now; Radiator is not causing grief yet, I wanted to change it out at the time of the timing belt, waterpump issue, but my mechanic took it out and inspected it, he assured that it wasn't going anytime soon.

Irregardless, IF (ssshh) those you-know-what's decide to go out I'll have the radiator replaced at the same time, that way the whole cooling system is new.

She's running damn good now, but I will keep a real good eye towards the center of the block.

Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir– prefix and –less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.

RF, I laughed as I read your post. Yep, sure is one nasty job to clean that bugger. I've convinced myself that the Rodeo runs better afterward, though it hasn't showed up in the mileage yet....

Well, I took it into town yesterday - I wouldn't rightly say overall power's any different, well that's actually hard to say as the wind was blowing REALLY hard yesterday. But take off power was improved.

Did you also bother to clean out the idle air passages?

You could also unbolt the digital EGR and clean the pintle of the valve and the passages. That may solve the DTC you're generating.
