I bought an air/fuel gauge. Got a question.
Yeah, so anyway I bought a Sunpro air/fuel gauge from my home boy for 25 dollars. And I was going to hook it up, but I have read a few things on here and from my understanding some people have said that air/fuel gauges arent very acurate? Is this true? I have also heard about wibeband O2. Whats the difference?

It is true that the a/f gauges are very inacurate...

Re: I bought an air/fuel gauge. Got a question.
narrowband gauges are just the ecu's guess of what the a/f ratio is. It's not really that good for anything beside knowing when you're in closed or open loop mode. Wideband actually use a probe in the exhaust to determine the real ratio.

Re: I bought an air/fuel gauge. Got a question.
To put it more accurately, the guages are quite accurate, but the narrowband sensors are not. If you look at the voltage output curve for one, you will see that it is really just a switch that tells the ECU if AFR is richer or leaner than 14.7:1. More than plus or minus about 1 from there is very low resolution.
A wideband sensor has a 0-5 volt output covering a range typically from 10:1 to 18:1, almost linearly. WBO2.com probably has output graphs for both types of sensors if anyone needs a visual. The site is vast, and not terribly easy to navigate, but well worth the effort.

Re: I bought an air/fuel gauge. Got a question.
it doesn't hurt anything. I use mine mostly to make sure I stay in closed loop mode to save on gas.

Re: I bought an air/fuel gauge. Got a question.
See, I plan on running a completly upgraded fuel system and using the safc 2. endlessheart666 how is the AEM wideband and is it hard to install? That is what I would need right? I feel wierd asking all these dumb questions but....thats how you learn.
