What kind of gas mileage do bikes get?

I currently drive a 1991 Honda CRX Si. I can easily average above 40 mpg with her on the highway, and once I even got 45 mpg!!! That's with a 200k mile engine. Well anyways with the price of gas going up, I'm thinking of selling the car asap, and saving as much money as possible throughout the winter and hopefully in the spring get a CBR600F4. What kind of gas mileage would that bike get when a: driven normally (70 mph highway) b: beating the hell out of it.

Ace, you should be getting a lil better mileage out of that F3. I'd say atLEAST 40mpg.

My bike is lame, but it gets 50-53mpg. I ride anywhere from tame to hard on a given tank of gas.

Yeah, when it is not sitting in my garage for a week. It is great on gas when you never ride it.

(Can you tell I am trying to convince her to go riding today?)

Re: What kind of gas mileage do bikes get?

in general, the small the bike, the better the mileage. There are scooters that get 100mpg, but they don't get over 30mph.

A ninja250 for example, gets 70mpg, but its also not very fast (although it can do 100mph with a slight backwind)

The bigger the engine, the more your throttle hand effects the gas mileage. Its quite possible to get 50mpg out of a liter bike (most anyway) but most people can't do it because they can't be that gentle on the throttle.

My ZRX (1100cc) has had 50+mpg a few times, but most days it gets around 35mpg these days....but I also turbo'd it and its making way more HP than most honda civics

The thing about the scooters is mostly true... My mom has a Honda scooter (250cc... I forget the name right now) and it will get 80-90mpg regularly, and I pushed it HARD. Now, granted, hard on that thing still only got me to about 75mph down a slight grade, but the gas mileage didn't change much.
