Strange Problem

I have 2000 dodge neon es Sohc 2.0L motor. Today I had driven it a good 30 minutes to an hour, and it's a atx. I sometimes like to manual shift it, only for higher rpm and torque purposes. This problem has been going on for about 2-3 weeks. The temp gauge goes up to about half and a little over half, warms up a little too quick as for my opinion. Thermostat is new and I have a 98 coolant fan motor since my other one has died. The coolant in there is fine, and I have a full resovoir. But here's the situation, when I put it in park, the engine starts to rev by itself, and it watch the rpm gauge closely. I watch it to below 1,000, which is strange cuz when I start it cold and in P the rpm stays at 1k. The highest I've seen the rpms go up to is 3,000. Could anyone tell me what the hell is wrong with my car, it's really depressing seeing my car in this state when I have such big plans and high hopes for it. plz?

Chill out man, maybe people don't know what advice to offer. You're not gonna get help from most people acting like an ass.

Anyway, Coolant Temperature Sensor could be the cause of your temp gauge reading. Throttle Position Sensor could be the cause for the idle surges or it may be time to change your spark plugs. I would suggest not manually shifting an ATX, it's bad for the tranny.

Re: Strange Problem

If you are going to manually shift your transmission, put a shift kit into it.
If you do very much inappropriate manual shifting the trans will wear out, the shift kit will prevent this and you can do all the manual shifting you want.
I've manually shifted all of my auto cars without any problem, but they need the shift kit to reliably do so. Most shift kits have a setting of mild, mid, race. I made the mistake of setting up one of mine for race and regretted it (chirped tire every time it shifted). I usually stick to mild, if you have NOS or Turbo, I would use Mid.

Hey thx for the advice dude, I had no idea. I have a question, I want to buy Bosch +4 platinum spark plugs for my neon, are those the best plugs to use? What do you suggest?

NOOOOOO!!!!!! Stock Champions are fine and cheap. Platinums do not work well with the neons wasted spark system. NGK's also work well, but NO PLATINUM PLUGS!

Re: Strange Problem

ah I see. You saved me from screwing up my car. there's something i noticed about my front passenger wheel. when the mechanic was driving my car to the other side of the shop, while making a left turn i heard my wheel grinding against the bumper, could there be a suspension problem with my front tires?

The wheel was running against the bumper? Are they stock tires and rims?

Re: Strange Problem

^^^I was thinking maybe your wheel/tire setup was too big, hence the rubbing. That doesn't look like the problem though. Could be suspension parts wearing down, maybe springs and/or struts.
