95 le sabre - no heat

temp display comes up to temp a little, but not where it usually was.
heater doesn't blow warm/hot air.
cooling fans (electric) come on as soon as car is started. is this normal?
i was guessing a fan control sensor that turns the fans on when the temp gets hot, but usually these "burn out" and don't allow thew fan(s) to come on at all.

Help?!?!?

thanks!

Hello

I guessing you have auto heat control. It sounds like you need to replace your thermostat.

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the easiest to overlook. Before I blew the engine in my Century, it had a coolant leak and the heat didn't work when there wasn't enough coolant in the radiator. Have you checked your fluid levels recently?? Have you been noticing excessive coolant consumption?? Check that and if it is low, top it up and see if the heat comes back up. Also, your thermostat may be stuck shut or partially shut not allowing the warm coolant to heat the car sufficiently due to lack of circulation. It may also be the wrong heat range for the car. If you replace the 'stat, be sure you put in the right one according to the factory specification for the year. They may look alike, but if you put a 170 degree stat in a car designed for a 195 degree one, the coolant will never get warm enough to heat the car because the stat will always be open and the fan will cool it too much before it reaches the heater core. Worse case scenario, if the coolant still isn't circulating, the water pump may not be pumping. The impeller inside can expand itself out of contact with the shaft and stop rotating or rotate too slowly to be of any use. The spinning shaft can also become worn if the impeller was loose for a while and it spun free inside the impeller hole for a long time. Time for a new or rebuilt water pump if this is the case. Those are the simplest things I can think of. If you have a coolant leak due to a blown head gasket or rotted radiator, you have a much harder job ahead of you.
