Type R vs. GSR???? Not a race... But.... Value

I have money saved up and I'm gonna buy a car in a month....
I want a Type R for it's performance, enthusiast value to me, and because... it's a Type R....
But the GSR has leather interior and a moonroof....
I also like the GSR rims....
GSR's run for pretty much the same price as a Type R because while the Type R might be way faster, the GSR is more of a comfortable car, that's what people say, but I figured I'd ask your opinion.

I already thought about the Type S, and drove one, but I LOVE Integra's...

I would have one but the Corolla was a take over payments from my mom... Now I can give it to my mom and use my saved up money for something....

Opinions?

Where are you shopping? What years are you looking at?

The Type-R will cost more than a GS-R if you are looking at the same model year. As far as which one to get...that is up to you. I had the same choice, but I went with the GS-R since it cost a bit less, had leather, had a moonroof, and insurance was going to rape me since it would be brand new. Also, I felt that it was a great balance between luxury (for the ladies) and performance (for me) Oh who am I kidding, they were both for me :o

I do like the Type-R a lot though. If you want some real good performance right out of the gate, it doesn't get much better than a B18C5...

Trust me... They run for the same price in the used car market.
I'm leaning towards the GSR though... Like you said, luxury for the ladies, (and me), and performance.
I guess I just have to balance it out.
I think the Type R is for that guy that already has a Durango or an Escalade for the family and for daily chores and tasks.... And he has the Type R for that weekend cruise.
The GSR is for the college guy/ pretty boy (pretty bad ass too) that doesn't have anything else to travel on, so he needs something with good performance ratings, reliability, leather and a moonroof... And cruise control for the road trips.
Yeah I was suprised that Type R's were the same price, it's just that you can find a good GSR 96 or around there for a cheaper price, but for a GOOD gsr you're looking at least at 17-18k which you can find a good Type R for.

BTW, I just can't believe that type r and GSR are the same price...
(I'm not sayin that u r a liar)

That about sums me up :smoker2:

And about the price, I just looked up 2000 Integras on Cars.com and he seems to be right. There are even a few GS-R's that cost more than Type-R's Maybe I should sell mine

I thought the GSR and Type R had the same suspension.
Oh well, I could be wrong.

I just know they have stiffer (thicker) swaybars, and tie bars/strut tower bars than the non vtecs.

Personally, I think there's not much point to arguing which is better. It's all about preferences, both are great cars with trade offs for each one.

But I don't blame you, if I were faced with a choice of either, I would probably lose a lot of sleep over it too. Tough decision.

I might end up going for the ITR.

I have a GS - only because I bought it brand new with my own money so I couldn't afford a gsr or itr. But i'm loving the leather and the moon roof.

That's exactly what I'm saying. I love the leather and the moon roof, and how hard would it be to slightly upgrade the suspension and brakes on a GSR?
Compare how hard it would be to do that, to how hard it would be to put GSR interior and the moonroof on an Integra Type R?

Oh well I decided.... I'm going with the GSR. I can always just get a headpackage for the GSR and I'll show you where a stock Type R stands. Just as long as he doesn't challenge me to an autocross match.

No, there a some differences. Try these links for all of the Type-R information/differences:

Engine
Transmission
Chassis
Suspension

Congrats on the decision! What model year are you looking at? Post up some pics once you get it.

I'm looking at a black 2000 model... It has 18,000 miles on it...
Is that good?
Yeah I'll try and post pics... I'm in the process of moving, so this car will be my best friend until I meet some chicks... Then it will still be my best friend, but it will spend a little more time in the garage then it used to.

hey great choice, thats what i have. To tell you the truth, i driven an ITR to the limit before and believe me, it doesnt matter if you get ITR or GSR, you would prefer to get better suspentions setups. Yes bone stock the ITR is stiffer than the GSR but in the end you would want to replace the shock suspention to get better preformance. I personally prefer the stock suspention on a stock s2000, its handles so sweet. oh just for reference the stock ITRs comes 1-1.25 inch lower than GSRs . It is true that ITR and GSR cost the same used but it is real hard to find a ITR in good shape. Chances are, the previous owner did some internal damage that you might not be able to detect. While on the other hand, it is easier to find a good used gsr. Of course, if you find a Championship white 98ITR, you might not want to pass it up.

theres also more subtle differences. In order to save weight, The type R doesnt have any sound insulation under the carpet, so you will have a much louder ride. This is because The Type R was meant maily for racing, unlike the GSR

But if you think about it. I'm 18 years old, I've only been driving for 3 years, and I already have one speed contest ticket on my record. So insurance will beat me within an inch of my life if I get a Type R.

Plus I like the GSR more. I don't race much but when I do, I'll have the courage knowing that I'm not racing anyone that fast, I'm not racing for money, and I have a GSR... Just because they're not as fast as the Type R doesn't make them weak; A lot of cars aren't as fast as Type R's.
