Both right and left flashers blink intermittently. Lights work, so I assumed it was the flasher unit. I tore off the front dash panels and found what I thought was the flasher unit (5-prong) but problem persists even with that piece removed. Where is the flasher unit? (Or is this likely a switch problem that I'm going to have to take to the dealer and sign over my first born?)

Re: Flasher Unit for '91 Lumina APV?
Quote:
It could even be a fuseable link which has worked loose. These are located insomething called "the Convenience Centre", which is mounted on a bracket behind the glove box. This is where the Hazard warning flashers, hron relay, curcuit breakers, air con low fan relay, and chime module are located. to get to the Convenience centre (is not very convenient ), you have to take off the glove box, and right sound insulator. Take out the Hazard flasher, horn relay and circuit breakers by pulling the unit out -- be careful and gentle though - sometimes the wiring is a bit short!. on the chime module, you'll have to take out the little locking tab first.replace any broken or worn fuseable links.Check all the circuit breakers, and replace any worn out ones. The turn signal flasher is mounted under the instrument panel just above the parking brake, whereas the hazard flasher is mounted in the convenience centre. You'll need to check both. Hope this of help. |

Re: Flasher Unit for '91 Lumina APV?
I've noticed alot of n00b's here giving out the wrong info.... Your flasher module is actually a 2-prong silver circular-dome-looking thing, and it is mounted underneath your dashboard on your steering column. You have to browse a little bit becuase there is alot of wiring under there!

I'm no mechanic (obviously) but that fits more with my experience in changing out flasher units. Thanks, I'll check that first.

Re: Flasher Unit for '91 Lumina APV?
Well, there's nothing remotely close on the steering column (I've removed the lower dash panels and it's completely exposed). It's not a fuse, so my next hope is to check loose bulbs (most likely in the back, since those are the ones that have most recently been replaced...) We'll see.
Comptech_69 - was your reference to the 91 Lumina or to the APV (seemingly a different animal altogether with nothing in common except the name and manufacturer's logo...)? |

Re: Flasher Unit for '91 Lumina APV?
Yes, I was talking about the sedan, but alot of things are similar in the two, you would be suprized actually. What I can suggest though, is when you put your blinker on, listen for the click of the module (you did state that they do blink, just very slowly, correct?), if it was a bad bulb, the module should actually flash much faster instead of being painstakingly slow.

Re: Flasher Unit for '91 Lumina APV?
flasher is a 2-prong silver-coloured cylinder. The "convenience centre" is under the glove box. Gotta take off the trim panel to expose it. The flasher pulls straight out.
