Fuel Filter Question

So, decided that its time to change the fuel filter for the first time. I read the chiltons guide to doing it and it wants me to do all sorts of crazy crap (drain the fuel, take out the whole fuel tank) so i was wondering if anybody has any advice as to what i really need to do so i dont have to take 5 hours changing this damn thing. BTW its a 92 (1g) 1.8L N/T Thanks

I dont know how to change on 1g ( I do own one now and need to change fuel filter soon ), on my 2g, all I do is take out the old filter ( the filter is locate under rear passenger seat ) and put the new one back in, no need to take out fuel tanks, just find where the old filter is and take that out and replace with the new one, that all.

Ok so now that i found the fuel filter (firewall) i cant get the damn bolt off. I can really heat it up unless i want to have a gasoline fire so any other ideas for getting a frozen nut off? The filter housing cannot be removed because there is the hard line running to the gas tank. So anybody have any special miracle creams or techniques?

alot of cars have 2 fuel filters, and having one inside the gas tank can be common but rarely do people change that one as part of routine maintnance. Usually the more visible one is changed.

Have you removed the battery and battery tray? If not then do so cause it helps tremendously, then try some pb blaster on it that should help. But I found that when I changed mine I used to wrenches (one on the top and the other on the bottom) at the same time to get the filter off.

I changed mine in like 10 minutes... You can't just loosen the one nut. You need two wrenches to turn both nuts side by side and it will be tight as hell but you just gotta muscle it... Only other thing I can think of that may help is to spray it down with penetrating oil and let it set overnight with it on there. I usually spray down suspension parts with pb blaster (penetrating oil) and let them soak overnight before I even touch em and it usually helps a lot. Another thing I will warn you about now is that your gonna have all the fuel drain out of the fuel rail when you take that line off. It may take a few extra cranks to start it up again after your all done. Oh, and crank down those fuel filter nuts before you start it or it'll spray fuel everywhere.

Have you tried any products like WD 40 and let it soak in to break it loose? All that I can think of. Good luck dude and becareful.

I think you need a flare-nut wrench for the bottom nut i think it's 17mm maybe 19mm. Be sure to use a flare-nut though or else you could be in trouble.

I let the top nut soak in WD-40 for a while and it was still pretty tough but i got it out. The bottom flare nut on the other hand, well thats another story. I took out the battery and the tray and the air filter hose but its hard to get into that flare because of the hard line coming in. But ya, what a pain in the ass, im pretty sure thats its never been changed since the production line in 92'. So Eagalicious, if you want to send some of that jedi power my way i'd appreciate it!!
