Whats up fellow Pontiac Gtp and Gt lovers

Hey all whats up... It took me alot of research to find this forum and Im glad that I finally did. I found alot of useful information just reading some of the other threads thats really cool. In anycase Ill get right to the point. I own a 97 GTP 3.8 liter v6 supercharged and lately i have been having massive amounts of problems with it.
First the Service engine light came so i had that looked at. My sister had a mechanic replace a sensor and sent her on her way. When I looked at the reciept it said elcate sensor I dont know.
Long story short my sister almost gets killed because my car dies out while she is driving over the verrazano bridge. In any case the light came on again and as she was driving the car home thats what happened. My GTP is my life guys and I love this car just about as much as I love my girlfriend.
When I brought the car to my mechanic on staten island he told me there was an electrical sensor that was out and the car died because the engine was not getting gas. Which made sense because the car would kick over and shut off. It wouldnt stay running. So I drive my car after my mechanic reset the codes and fixed that problem but the light comes on again today.
When I brought the car back to have it read through diagnostic there were 2 codes that popped up. Transmission solenoid, and the Evap emissions code.
If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. I have on the engine now the thrasher cold air intake system with cone airfilter. PCM by DHP, Thermostat the whole nine yards. the car has 123,000 miles on it and I really dont want to get rid of it because like I said I love this car. I have had it since 03 and I really dont want to get rid of it, but Im running out of patients.
Sorry so long, if anyone has had these problems feel free to let me know what was done to fix and how much $$$. Thanks sorry so long. Joey (stranded in staten island)...

Can you get and post the tranny and evaporative emissions odb-ii error codes?

The cutting off could be a couple of different problems. Fuel or ignition. For ignition a possible crank position sensor. For fuel it could be the fuel pump resistor is bad which is part of the hi-speed fuel pump relay circuits.

Welcome to AF.

Sounds good. You've come to the right place for help. I don't think the tranny and evap. emissions codes are causing the engine cutoff problem but they will still need to be looked at. Symptoms of a fuel pump ressistor is the car will start up and run but die in a very short period of time. See link below to see what I am referring to:

http://rmcgp.clubgp.com/fpresistor.html

A flaky resistor causes an insufficient amount of fuel to flow from the fuel pump. The L67 needs the extra fuel flow and has basically a two speed fuel pump.

Also, do you ever get the SECURITY light?

a flacky crank position sensor could cause a fuel problem to, the ocm will shut off the pump if the sensor says less than a preset RPM

Re: Whats up fellow Pontiac Gtp and Gt lovers

hey everyone how was the weekend??? so i bring my car to auto zone yesterday and had the obd II test run on it. the only code that came back this time was P0441, what i dont understand is on friday when my mechanic put his diagnostic tool on, it came back with incorrect purge flow on the evap, but also my transmission had a code also about the solenoid. this was all on friday, but when i had the car put on a diagnostic tool sunday the transmission code never came up. Am I losing my mind???

A lot of the tranny codes are Class D codes that stay stored until reset but may not trigger the SES light. Maybe it was a prior problem that cured itself. Did the mechanic perform a reset?

Are you having any tranny problems? If not I wouldn't worry about it but keep an eye on it just in case.

Re: Whats up fellow Pontiac Gtp and Gt lovers

well if my crank position sensor or fuel resistor relay was the problem my mechanic took care of that. my car starts fine and drives okay to. it doesnt get hot, it stays at 160 temp and it drives fine. I changed the belt this weekend and looked around everything seemed to be okay. my mechanic didnt reset my pcm on friday, then i brought it to autozone on sunday they put the obd 2 on there and P0441 popped up and the tranny code wasnt there. Then the kid from autozone reset my pcm and the service engine soon light came right back on.
My mechanic told me to drive the car for 2 weeks on friday and bring it back to him if the light was still on. now what thats going to solve i dont know but that is what made me join this forum initially and so im thinking either i start doing all this myself and get familiar with my engine more or keep paying 700 dollars every other month or so to have these problems fixed.
