Re: Rebuilding my own motor!

I'm strongly opposed to it. My brother, who can literally put an entire transmission back together tried to rebuild his Dodge Colt's motor. He had alot of bolts left over afterwards, and no mechanic in his right mind is just going to want to work on it, seeing as to how much trouble shooting will be involved afterwards.

There are soo many rod, bolts, etc.. that need to be put back in, so it is easy to misplace them. Start your way up, from something amiss to doing a clutch job, alternator, water pump, etc.., before venturing on.

Heck ASE mechanics can screw up an engine rebuild, what makes you think that you might be different

Just save up the money, have it rebuilt with some forged internals. After having the forged internals in save up some more and install some form of power adder.

That's just my $.02

l was about to untill the damn toyota breaks down!!

my toyota break down.. starter went bad and l replaced it and now needs clucth workv and the cheapest mechanic says 550 bucks. and tune up.

my bird was sick too.. but l repalced almost all parts.. and recently radiator replaced brand new.

so u tell me what would u if u were me? sell the bird, keep the corolla?

now l got 2 cars.. my wifes says sell the bird but it would be stupid to sell it. because if l replace the opti, wires and spark plugs my bird will have no more problem.. (just a/c doesnt make cold) plus l still owe like 5.750 bucks to bird if l sell it for 5k or 4.5k l would lose a lot of money wouldnt l?

So to keep my bird would be better i guess.

Thanks,
Erdal.
have a wonderful day!.....

Good idea. If you make a connection with a mechanic they can monitor your progress. I've got a buddy whose friends with a shop owner. Guy let's him use his hoist and everything (Permitted they have the time to give). It's amazing how much time one can save by not having to jack up one's car, and do work underneathe it, versus working on it from a hoist.

Oh yeah, and digital pictures would help out tremedously in putting the bolts back into the right place.

Don't mean to steer you clear of working on your car, just not trying to take on something you possibly can't complete.

but l am saying again, not now, months later l am planning, even if l f**ed it up, l will at least try. but l need ton of info, knowledge about this.,
