Question 427 Chevrolet help?

Can anyone help me figure out what my 427 big block came out of? The build date is 05/15/65 and the block casting #'s are 3855961 and Mortech.com shows that as a 1966 427 w/390 horsepower but I cannot get anymore information on it than that. The rest of the numbers & letters found are LF & 3866948. Thanks for any help - drew

Re: 427 Chevrolet help?

both numbers im showin as come off a 66-67 396ci

First is the engine block - 396ci - 325hp 2-bolt

Next number is the intake manifold for
396 325hp, or
427 390, Holley

i'll dig into it some more

Whats the number on front of the passenger side head? Its stamped on the block, but list that number as well. Also, what are the head casting numbers?

Re: 427 Chevrolet help?

yeah, so far between mine and formulas sources, it would appear as though you have a 396ci BB and not a 427?

the second number you gave is the intake manifold number off of a 396ci

But was also used on the 427's of that same year..

Re: 427 Chevrolet help?

Actually the 66 427 Corvette used the same casting number as the 396. Check my list again.

Re: 427 Chevrolet help?

427 help. can you get the numbers by the right side head, there's a plate with the vin code, usually has a code with 3 letters like TKD and it will have a Vin number also which is same as the car it came out of,because my book says it's a 350 with that engine casting number.

Anyway, welcome to automotive forums, THEsarge. This isnt the best way to make a first post as the last time someone posted in this thread was over a year ago, please make sure you check next time and dont be afraid to start a new thread instead of posting in an old one.
