Electrical Problem
I have a 96 Cav that is draining it's battery. What is the best way to test for a short? I tried disconnecting some components to see if that was the problem but it's not.

Re: Electrical Problem
Probably bad diodes in the alternator.Have you jump started with it lately?
Also,trunk/and underhood light staying on will do this as well. |

Re: Electrical Problem
This is a common problem called a parasitic draw (unless it is bad alternator diodes). This just means that something is staying on after the car is shut off, different lights, the stereo maybe, there are multiple different components that could be doing it.

Re: Electrical Problem
check the battery. if the car charges up fine while its running the alternator is fine. but if there is no fluid in the cells it could be losing its charge. if the cells are low a good poor mans way to fix is to fill them with water if you live in a decent climate
