Engine removal?

I tried searching the forums.... but it came up with no results.

My friend recently buoght a berreta gtz with 300 000+ km on the chassis and about 3000 on the rebuilt engine. Well shortly after he bought it he found out that the rack and tierod ends need to be replace. The shop quoted him 500 for the work... BUT one of the mechanics at the shop has the exact same car with a body in the same condition that only has 133 000 on it except the engine is blown. He also only wants 800 for it. That got us thinking that if he bought that one we could remove the engine from the one he has now and put it into the chassis with lower km's.

I looked on all data at school and they only said a way to do it where you need a hoist so that you can drop the engine from the bottem of the car. I was just wondering is there anyway to pull it out the top? I have an engine crane and everything else needed to pull it out the top... but is it possible? Mabey if i removed the trans first?

Any info would be awesome weer looking to start this within a week if it can.

Re: Engine removal?

Yea you can pull it from the top. There should be a couple of hooks for the hoist. You dont have to pull the trans. It is tight though. I always pull engines from front wheel drives from the top(GM vehicles anyway).
