Power windows

I own a 99 Durango and the other day all four windows just stop working. Went to each individual window and they don't work also. I changed the circuit breaker fuse and still nothing. Any suggestions before I go to the dreaded dealership?

call up your dealer have your vin # ready there is a problem with the window regulators.I have fixed 4 this month alone only drivers side though regulator will run you retail $175 plus labor. If you can pull off the door panel (lift up on this door panel not out like the old vehicles)) after screws are taken out 2 on bottom one behind inside handle one under your pull handle(inside)If you can or have a jumper box directly hook the positive and negitive to the window motor itself and check it to see if it works.

Re: Power windows

I have a 2000 SLT 4x4 Durango. I have two windows that don't work. I did receive a quote from a dealer in my area. They quoted me $500 for a new motor for the rear passenger window/door. The other window is the driver's door (I was still receiving oxygen after the first quote, I did not get a quote for this door). I did buy a new switch (on the driver's door) did not solve my problem. Is this a common problem? Any ideas?

Re: Power windows

The problem was very common on the 99 D. A local dealer replaced (3) out of (4) in warranty on mine. I've replaced at least (2) more myself since then and have a third that isn't working right now. I paid around $100.00 each for the new regulators from the local dealer. You could probably find them cheaper on-line if you do a little bit of searching. It's a pretty simple job once you get the door panel off. The OEM parts require you to drill some new holes in the inner door panel but they supply a template for this. Just be careful with the door latch assy. (broke one of the small plastic parts on mine because I wasn't careful when I removed the panel).
All (4) not working sounds like an electrical problem at the drivers door switch to me. The jumper wires used to power them direct should prove this out.

Re: Power windows

Come to find out, it was the circuit breaker fuse. I brought a cheaper one from Autozone that didn't work and my mechanic got one from his NAPA dealer and it worked just fine after that.
