I have a 1987 mustang convertible LX. It runs but it has more shakes and noises than should ever be allowed. I'm debating whether to fix it up not but I'm not sure it's worth it. It just got a new clutch but it's going to need a lot more before I can even start doing anything fun like dropping a v8 in it. Such as: a new top, tires, the emergency break is messed up, the rear end is going, a new serpentine belt, drivers seat (although they could all use replacing by the time it's all said and done), driver's side window is messed up, all new mirrors, the body has some rust on on it, passenger side outer door handle, gas gauge is broken, tail light, and who knows what else and to top it all off it has 356,000 some miles on it. I don't really think it's totally a lost cause and should be retired to the junkyard. But I'm not exactly an expert so I wanted some second opinions.

Re: is this car worth it?
With 356k I would turn around and run away from that car as fast as I could.
Even if it were given to you the cost of repairs (present and future) will be prohibitive and probably be more than the blue book value. I've never heard of that kind of mileage on a car still in service. However, if you like the car with a little work (lotsa work) it probably can be resurected and be saved from the boneyard. |

Re: is this car worth it?
356k!! Tell those import guys and shove it in thier face!!! It's all about maintenance!! However, with that many miles on it and that much wrong with it, I would use it as a drag car.

Re: is this car worth it?
I would call that a project car and it really depends on the person and their financial stretch.
If you decide not go through with it I vist it the Knoxville area about every 3 months and it would be no problem for me to drive the extra 100 miles to JC. Pictures of the car would be nice (interior, exterior) |
