Iraq, 9/11, Bush/Cheney and the CIA leak, lobbyists, etc.-- will we ever get answers?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060406/...bush_leak_dc_6
...just in case anyone hasn't heard about this yet. Now, I realize both the administration and asshat supporters like Limbaugh will be out there in no-time defending this, and by default much of what has transpired over the last two terms. They're going to blame "the liberal media", the democrats, the schools/colleges, the "Bush haters", and anyone else that fingers can be pointed at. And yet in the end, they will be no different from those they preach out against -- because in the end EVERYONE is pointing fingers. Something very real has happened over the past 7 or 8 years -- it's like we're reaching the peak of Mt. Bullshit, and anyone with half a brain is readying itself for a hard and fast trip down. Just look around -- how many cars do you pass on the road that still have their Bush/Cheney or even Kerry/Edwards '04 bumper stickers stuck on their vehicles? How come this administration is under 24/7 fire from all directions? Why have the 24-hour news channels become so ubiquitous? How did the new buzz-words become "September 11th", "Evangelical Christians", "wiretapping", "Iraq", "NeoConservative", "liberal", "Katrina", "full disclosure", "terrorism", "illegal immigration" and many other phrases that have seemingly come out of nowhere to the forefront of daily life? And most importantly, will we get any real answers? ARE THERE any answers? Someone out there knows the true reasons behind many of these issues -- and the people aren't stupid, we want answers. Maybe it's a result of the society we've become -- a live, up-to-the-minute, information NOW civilization. Does anyone else think we're reaching a crescendo here? It just feels like something has to give, and I think the faith in our goverment is going to be the focus of the collapse -- not only our own faith in our government, but the faith of many countries around the world. This isn't the reasonably controlled environment of our grandparent's government -- this is the brash, hounding critique that started, for many of us, in our parent's generation. I have absolutely zero confidence in our government at this point. I can't trust a word anyone standing behind that podium spits out. I understand that no government can truly be entirely transparent -- sometimes there are things that just need to remain secret to protect groups or individuals from undue harassment, or sometimes even protect the general citizenry from bad things -- and this is some of what a government is expected to do. But it seems to me that each progressive presidential term sees more and more bullshit that is just plain bad. The media is no more nosey or hard-bitten than it ever was, global politics is no more heated than in the past, and the people are no more critical than they've ever been. What HAS changed however, is how our government does business, and in the process they're jerking around the most important thing in their charge -- the people. And now, in this new age of globalization, it's not just the American people who are subject to the actions of this government, it's the world at large (this is what happens when you're a superpower.) Unfortunately, each successive government body over the last few decades has done a little more to destroy that position. And now, with a new century upon us, it seems that the current administrative body has taken that incompetence to an entirely new level of poorness. Seriously, name ONE functional plan our politicians have to deal with ANY of the problems we face right now. Some here have ragged on me in the past for claiming that, in politics it seems, the shit almost invariably rises to the surface -- and how many winners do we have at the top right now? Few and far between, I say. This government couldn't form a cohesive strategy for running a damn lemonade stand, nevermind national and international politics. And who's suffering for it? We are. The people. And the pundits wonder WHY we're all so goddamn fired up? Is it really that tough to understand? Something big has got to happen, and soon. Unfortunately, at this point in the game, I think the policy of this administration has turned almost entirely to damage control. I can't help but feel their only goal at this point is just to survive another 2 1/2 years without being put to the damn gallows. The question is, will the public put up with this shit for that long? Ultimately, I think the next administration will find themselves in the unique position of having the opportunity to either heroically usher in a renaissance in American government, or be the final straw that breaks the camel's back. And while there will be many steps to gaining back the public trust (too many to list here without making a book out of this thread) I think a key first step is a frank address of the people's concerns. We need some damn answers, backed up with some solid evidence supporting those answers. This administration is far too secretive (amongst many things) and they're paying for it.

Re: Iraq, 9/11, Bush/Cheney and the CIA leak, lobbyists, etc.-- will we ever get answ
teng,
Short of armed insurrection, what do you think it will take? The present gov't. (both parties, folks, I distrust them both equally) is so ensconced in power that they won't give it up easily. Too much sucking at the public purse to give it up now. The only way to hang on to that position is to exercise ever tighter control over our freedoms. Or, keep us so distracted that we can't possibly stay united long enough to bring them down. It's no accident that things are spiraling out of reach at an increasing pace. Yes, I do think we are headed toward some sort of catastrophe, but I think it will be something far worse than our own government. One world power is on the horizon, and present events are just the prelude. I'm not going any farther than that; we can all fill in the blanks for ourselves. |

They will never give out any answers. You should create some kind of petition to impeach the goon out of office.
