I have a 97 cherokee with the infinity amplifier in it. The problem I have is that there seems to be no power getting to the speakers from the new head unit. The head unit definately works because I was able to hook a speaker directly to it and produce sound. Apparantly there is something in the old factory unit that turns the amp on and off. The question is what and how do I connect it to the new unit. Please help, I would really appreciate it.

Re: 97 jeep Grand Cherokee Aftermarket Stereo install
When you are talking about the speakers not getting sound, do you mean the speakers in the door or your sub. Because when you hook the RCA cables from the deck to the amp, sometimes they come with a power cable wired in the middle and sometimes you ahve to put it in seperate. If you dont have a power cable form the deck to the amp, the sub wont work. If it has to do with the door speakers not getting sound, then i dont really know, it is something in the wiring. I just bought an adaptor harness, its alot quicker.

Re: 97 jeep Grand Cherokee Aftermarket Stereo install
did you purchase a dash harness? if so there is a wire marked power antenna , put power to that wire and all your speakers should come on(remember to have you ignition off and would be a bad idea to disconnect the battery) before you do this

Re: 97 jeep Grand Cherokee Aftermarket Stereo install
If you amp is not coming on when the new deck is on, then you dont have the power cord hooked up. Usually on the RCA cables, there is a small cable in the middle that hooks up the back of the deck (usually a screw in deal), then when you run the RCA's back, there is a spot between the negitve battery cable and the ground, that little port is for the power cable (like an on and off switch). When that is hooked up, the amp will turn on when the deck does. Now if your RCA cables does not have that, just run soome speaker wire from the deck to the amp, it makes no difference.

Re: 97 jeep Grand Cherokee Aftermarket Stereo install
i have a 96 GC jus bought it from a car auction bout 4 weeks ago. it has a alpine deck in it and they have speaker wires ran from the deck to the amp. there isnt any RCA's on the stock amp and u cant adjust it as far as i know. im about to put a new 4 channel in it tomarrow i'd suggest that... stock amps are weak
