89 Olds Multiple-Issues

I've got a 89 Cutlass Ciera with a 2.8L V6 with ESTIMATED 65K/miles on it.

About 9 yrs ago (previous owner) it was put nose-in into a ditch full of muddy water.

Since then, the following problems have plagued this car:
Speedometer doesn't work. We've replaced the Speedo cluster twice and still no function.
Rear Elect Heated Window (Defrost) doesn't work.
Takes 3 times to start & stay running...then has a "variable idle".
Cooling Fan stays ON CONSTANTLY.
Torque converter doesn't seem to kick-in at "40" like it's supposed to...but since i'm not sure where 40 is, hard to tell.

We've taken it to the dealer, swapped at least one computer and it still hasn't changed.

Any ideas? the front clip had some parts replaced from the accident.

Thanks a bunch...

I"ll give it a try

The speedo cable comes out of the transmission, has it ever been checked?
Rear defroster I assume the switch light works, if not check the relay.
also check the wires on the rear glass for a small break. They sell repair kits at most auto stores.

Anyone ever check the fuel filter?

The cooling fan has a relay under the hood, I would check there first.

I believe the 89 olds speedo is electronic, the torque convertor clutch gets a signal from the speedo telling the convertor to engage at certain speeds and your speedo doesn't work.

My 88 Ciera had a electric plug on the front of the convertor, make sure it is attached securely.

Re: 89 Olds Multiple-Issues -- UPDATE

UPDATE -- 6 APR 2006

I changed the Speed Sensor on the transmission and now it doesn't do anything else different (Speedo is still dead, still no lockup converter in the trans...etc)

Any suggestions? Is there another sensor or something that controls the speedo?
