valve adjustment

Hello to all,

I have an 89' Toyota Camary and was wondering if and how many miles do I drive before the valves need adjustment if any. I had thought it was every 30K BUT I was told my 4 cylinder doesn't need adjustment. Is this right?

Check the clearances first.
They usually do not require adjustment - especially if the oil has been changed regularly.
To adjust you need to replace shims after checking with a micrometer to compensate accordingly.

Thanks again dude! My oil is changed on schedule everytime. I'm gonna go back to using Mobil 1. :-)

Re: valve adjustment

IMO, if you haven't done head work that would affect the valve clearances, or you don't hear them, don't worry about adjusting the valve clearances.

typesix,

Thank you for your posting. I'll rest a little easier. besides it's suppose to be part of the biggie service anyway. I have the same year and motor as you do.
