1997 Sunfire, 2.2L Check engine light on..
Well, I was driving today and the check engine light came on. Autozone plugged in and told me it was an error code "P1404".
After google searching, it seems to be the EGR valve. Is there a way to clean that, or is a replace-only situation? Recent work I had done: Oil change, Front brakes and rotors replaced.. Car has ~133000 and still runs beautifully. Thanks all.. Chris EDIT: Auto trans.. |

It can be cleaned by removing the egr from the car and spraying the area where it connects to the engine with throttle body cleaner. The other thing to check is to make sure that the passageways to the engine are clean. They sometimes carbon up and will cause the same light and condition as the egr valve itself.

This may seem like a stupid question, but where is it?
