I have a 2001 toyota corolla S with a check engine light on. I was told that the mass air flow sensor needs to be replaced. Does anyone know how to replace this sensor?? What steps does a DIY need to take?? Any info would be great. Thanks

Re: mass air flow sensor
Don't replace the sensor unless you know it's bad and cleaning doesn't help. There are usually some cheaper things that can be malfunctioning with the same DTC as indicates a problem with the MAF meter.
What code are you getting?

Re: mass air flow sensor
Hey, what's new? About the code i'm getting "p0171 system runnin' lean bank#1". That's what it says on the receipt that I got. Yeah, I have cleaned the air flow sensor with special kind of electric spray cleaner thing, the sensor became really shiny but no result. By the way one important thing I wanted to ask is that when I press on gas the engine hesitates as if it's going to stall. Is that has to do with that sensor and check engine light?

Re: mass air flow sensor
Sure, any mixture-related DTC can cause strange behavior in running.
The P0171 code could be an HO2 sensor, an ECT sensor, dirty injectors, MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor, low fuel pressure, or a loose hose or duct in the air intake after the MAF meter. Most everything above is cheaper than a MAF meter.
