Please help? My license plate lighting is not working. First, I tried replacing the bulbs. When this did not work, I checked the socket for power. I found that I had no power coming to the socket. I have checked the fuses and do not appear to have a problem with them. I have searched the Haynes manual for a wiring diagram to track the source of my problem. There is a very small diagram that is hard to read and identify. Does anyone have a better diagram I can use? Your help would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: License Plate Lamp Bulbs
You didn't specify year or if it is a wagon or sedan.
If possible make an enlarged copy of your wiring diagram. Try autozone.com They have free repair guides available. Last edited by KimMG; 04-03-2006 at 12:58 AM. |

Re: License Plate Lamp Bulbs
Does your car have aftermarket trailer wiring? If so, the installer may have used the common (but inappropriate) ScotchLoc connectors.
These are fine for interior wire taps in dry locations, but when used outside the car or in wet locations, they do not prevent moisture from entering the wiring and corrosion from occuring. I've seen this type of wire tap cause numerous lighting problems which usually require the damaged wires to be replaced in 1 foot long sections. If you find this to be the case, I would suggest replacing any of this type of wire tap with soldered splices, and all splices being insulated with adhesive-lined shrink sleeving. -Rod |
